Our History
In the historic bay of Gera, in the Holy Land of Lesvos, an olive oil with a rich aroma and fruity taste is produced with the most modern methods from selected olives of the Kolovi variety.
The history of the "Paleokipos Agricultural Olive Oil Cooperative" begins in 1922, when a group of creative people of Paleokipos in their effort to stop their economic exploitation by all kinds of private businessmen and traders of the time, decided to create the first agricultural cooperative of Paleokipos, with the first main action being the creation of an olive press and warehouse for the production and storage of olive oil.
From then until today the first stone buildings remained and the original area of the Cooperative grew. In the last 10 years, and especially since 2014, the full modernization of the Cooperative has started through its participation in various subsidized development programs.
As a result of all these efforts, the cooperative now has one of the most modern olive processing, production, storage and standardization units.
It consists of 300 active members who come from all the villages of Gera, covering a large part of the olive grove bay.
The operation of the olive mill begins, based on the technology of that time, with the steam engine, the millstone for breaking the olives and with 3 classic presses ( baskia ) for the extraction of olive oil.
Improvement of the mill's efficiency, with the replacement of the millstone by a motorized crusher, the addition of 3 new classic presses and the installation of an olive oil separator for easier separation of the olive oil.
Complete replacement of the existing mechanical equipment, with the installation of two new olive oil production lines with centrifugal three-phase machines.
Complete new modernization of all internal and external areas of the mill and also the installation of a two-phase olive processing line with modern new generation machines, for the production of more and better quality olive oil.
Complete modernization of the olive oil warehouses, with the internal insulation of the stone buildings with sanitary panels and the creation of stainless steel tanks.The result is the storage and preservation of olive oil in ideal conditions.
Implementation of investments to improve the competitiveness of the olive cultivation of the members of the Cooperative in order to modernize and adapt to market needs.
Installation of an electricity production unit (solar panels) with a capacity of 20 Kw.
Creation of an automatic olive oil standardization line, with the safety and quality regulations, for the distribution of IERA GOLD, olive oil for the Greek and global Market’s .
